Tips for Reducing Distractions when Behind the Wheel

Distracted driving is a serious issue and it is particularly important for professionals that work in the transportation service industry like us. Our limo drivers spend a lot of time in the car and, as a result, they need to be trained on all areas of road and vehicle safety. This is why we put so much emphasis on ensuring each one of our drivers has the knowledge and tools to be safe and effective limousine drivers.

With the rise in awareness for the dangers that are bought on by distracted driving practices, we thought that we would offer up some tips for reducing distractions when driving.

  1. Understand what distracted driving is and the threat it poses: Distracted driving is anything that takes your eyes off the road and your attention away from driving, not just talking or texting. It’s eating, grooming, listening to loud music, and many other things.
  2. Eliminate as many distractions as possible upfront: Being proactive and reducing the distractions before they could potentially become an issue is the first step to being a safer driver.
  3. Turn off and put away your phone: The best attitude to have about your phone while driving is “out of sight, out of mind.” Turing off your phone and putting it out of your reach will eliminate your temptation to reads texts or talking on your phone when the car is in motion.
  4. Break the habit: If you are guilty of a distracted driving practice, commit to breaking the habit. If everyone did this, there would a lot fewer accidents on the roads. This would make Ontario roads safer for everyone.
