What You Need to Know About Alcohol Use in Limos

Super Stretch Limousine - Gem Limousine

Many of the occasions for which you would rent a limousine are celebrations: a birthday party, a bachelor or bachelorette party, a wedding, or even a night out with friends. As a result, it should come as no surprise that many people want to bring alcohol with them on their limo ride.

However, many people don’t know what the rules and regulations are for alcohol use in limousines. Here is what you need to know about drinking alcohol in one of our limos if you rent with Gem Limo:

If you bring it on board and open it, you do so at your own risk and are subject to any fines.

Section 32(1) of Ontario’s Liquor Licence Act (LLA) states that no one is permitted to drive or have control of a motor vehicle while there is opened and readily available liquor in the vehicle. The LLA falls under the purview of the Ministry of the Attorney General, and questions about the enforcement of this section are referred to the police.

So what about limousines with a partition between the driver and passengers?

“Technically, it still remains a motor vehicle, no matter how you cut it. So when you look at the designation under 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act, it designates a car, moving or not, and says no.

We will not provide alcohol. Except for in the case of wedding limousine packages, where we provide complimentary champagne which is used for the cork popping shot that most photographers like to take.
