Why Distracted Driving Needs to Stop

Town-Car-Sedan-Black

Distracted driving continues to be a serious issue on Ontario roadways. Even amid the implementation of distracted driving fines a few years ago, distracted driving is still a leading cause of accidents. The issue is much bigger than people checking their phone while behind the wheel.

There is no shortage of ways that drivers can be distracted when they are driving and this is why it is important to focus on the task at hand when you get behind the wheel – driving in a safe and effective manner.

Types of distracted driving

There are many different types of distracted driving practices. Each one of the following distractions needs to stop to make our roads safer:

  • Texting and driving
  • Grooming
  • Reading or watching a video
  • Playing with electronic devices
  • Talking on the phone
  • Checking email
  • Eating and drinking
  • Any other distraction that takes your attention away from driving and your eyes off the road.

Remember that it only takes a second for something to happen. You need to be ready to react and if you are distracted, you may not be able to react in time. And, you are subject to a ticket if you are caught doing something by police that is deemed to be a distracted driving practice. So, keep your eyes on the road and focus on driving.
